The tires are the only part of your vehicle that comes in contact with the road - enabling your car, truck or SUV to accelerate, stop well and turn smoothly. Your tires play an essential role in keeping you and those traveling with you safe. Each tire supports one-quarter of the weight of your vehicle. If any one of your tires is compromised, the others have to adjust to compensate and in some cases (a flat tire) your vehicle can't function at all. Tread depth of your tires changes over time as it wears away and is altered by the climate, driving habits, roadway surfaces, etc. Good tread depth is essential to proper traction as they grip the road and help you turn and stop safely. The grooves and tread also work together to appropriately siphon water or safely move your vehicle over snowy or slippery roads in the winter months. Timely Tire Replacement will serve you well Safety - there are many problems that can arise with your tires that can potentially compromise your safety. From difficulties with traction due to tread problems to a flat tire caused by a slow leak from a nail you ran over months ago. This is why it is especially important that you have them assessed regularly and repaired or replaced as recommended. Efficiency/Comfort - Tires keep your vehicle moving smoothly over the roadways. If they are unevenly worn, not properly balanced, misaligned or damaged it makes it more difficult for all of your vehicle to keep in constant with the road. Because of this, your ride may vibrate, pull to one side, be bumpy and/or is likely wasting fuel since your vehicle is working extra hard in order to compensate for these problems. • Brake Repair

Your brakes are important Having properly functioning brakes in your vehicle is important not only for you and your passengers, but also for other motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and anyone in your path on the road. Many people think braking systems are simple, often times calling to ask 'how much does it cost to fix my brakes.' Because the system is complex with many components, brake repair is difficult to diagnose without evaluating the entire braking system. While brake systems vary slightly by the particular make and model you own, most consist of disc brakes in the front and either disk or drum brakes in the rear. The system is connected by tubes and hoses and linked to each wheel and master cylinder. Timely brake repair serves you well Being able to slow down or stop is important. And in emergency stopping situations especially, you rely on your braking system. If any component of the braking system is not working properly, it becomes a safety hazard for many. Ignoring or delaying brake repairs, such as low brake fluid, a spongy brake pedal, worn brake pads or grinding, can not only become more costly, but also hazardous on the roadways to you and others. Having your brakes diagnosed may not cost much initially, but if not checked, potential damage to other parts or other vehicles can become quite expensive. Brakes should be inspected regularly. Your brake system is part of your vehicle's preventative maintenance. It's wise to do brake repairs before they become a problem. Skipping preventative maintenance may seem like a good idea because of the initial cost. However, worn brake pads, overheating rotors or low brake fluid can cost you more in the long run. Following an inspection and maintenance schedule can save you money in excess brake repairs, keep your car on the road longer, and may even maintain your warranty. How we take care of your car Aside from the exceptional customer service you receive at Babcock Auto Care, our top-notch brake repair service sets us apart. Our trusted ASE-Certified technicians will test drive your vehicle, using their experience and professional expertise to assess your braking system. Then we will perform a thorough brake inspection in our shop by pulling each wheel off your vehicle to best assess each component of the braking system. We measure the pad and shoe thickness and uneven wear, assess the condition of the rotors, check the hardware to make sure it's adjusted and moving properly. We make sure the master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake lines are not leaking. We check the calipers for wear and free movement and fluid leaks. We also check the level and condition of the brake fluid. During our evaluation of your brakes, we take pictures of any concern we find and input all of our findings into our digital inspection system. When complete, our service advisors will have all of this information at their fingertips and will generate an estimate based off the inspection result. They will then be able to give you an overall picture of what our technicians found and what it will take to properly complete your brake repairs. When it comes to brake repairs, we use only quality parts and industry-standard repair methods. Our work is guaranteed by the best warranty in the business.

If your vehicle is constantly overheating or you are experiencing other engine problems, there may be an issue with your vehicle’s cooling system. Your vehicle’s cooling system has the important job of essentially cooling down your vehicle’s engine while running. Your engine emits a significant amount of heat on the road, and in order to regulate the temperature of your engine, your vehicle’s cooling system distributes lubricant to coat your engine and protect vital components. • Engine Repair

Your vehicle's engine is Important Your engine is the component that produces power to operate your vehicle. Inside the engine, fuel and air are ignited to force pistons up and down, which in turn rotate the crankshaft. Your engine's crankshaft then transfers power into the transmission, where it can be directed for your vehicle to perform as you see fit. Your engine's rotation also operates several other systems, including the air conditioning compressor, the power steering pump and the alternator. Without the ability to run efficiently, your vehicle would not only drive poorly if at all, but the air conditioning would not work, your alternator would not charge the battery, and your power steering would not function. Timely engine repair serves you well Any engine problems you experience can have detrimental effects on your vehicle's operation. Common issues you may have are: Overheating Misfires or rough running Excess emissions Hard starting Check Engine light Leaking oil If you experience these or any other engine-related problems, it's important to have them addressed right away. Timely engine repairs can prevent further damage to internal engine components, including the pistons, camshaft, bearings, timing chain or belt, and oil seals. If you choose to ignore the early signs or symptoms of engine problems, you can expect an inconvenient breakdown or expensive engine repairs coming your way. • Oil Change Service

Your vehicle's oil is Important Your engine oil serves several critical roles in your engine's operation. Your engine oil provides a protective barrier between moving parts, to prevent unnecessary wear and tear. It cleans sludge and dirt deposits from internal engine parts, carrying it all to the oil filter where it can be removed from the engine. Your engine oil also removes excess heat from the engine. In fact, your engine oil performs up to 40 percent of your engine cooling. Timely oil change service serves you well Over time and after driving your car for several thousand miles, your engine oil deteriorates. It can no longer lubricate moving metal parts as well as it once did, as it discolors into dark brown or black. Dirty engine oil can't perform the required cooling action as well as new oil, so your engine temperature can start to climb higher than normal. It's also common for your engine to lose some oil between oil changes, from either normal amounts of oil consumption or by minor seepage past seals. Your engine oil may be lower than normal by the time you near your oil change service interval. By performing regular oil change services according to your vehicle's maintenance schedule and the type of oil you are using, you can prevent harmful deposits from forming in your engine. You can keep your engine running cool, while preventing wear and tear on components by keeping everything well lubricated. How we take care of your oil changes At Babcock Auto Care, you'll not only receive the best customer care possible, but you'll get honest, reliable oil change services from a highly trained staff. We will always discuss the results with you in detail and keep the inspection on file, so you'll know exactly what to expect upon future services. For your engine's protection, we use Mobil oil and high-quality filters for oil change services at Babcock Auto Care.

  • Suspension Repair

Your vehicle's suspension is Important Besides your tires, your vehicle's suspension - including springs, shock absorbers, struts, control arms, and ball joints - is the primary system that separates you from the road. It is designed to keep your tires connected to the road to give you a quiet, comfortable and safe ride. Timely suspension repairs will serve you well Over time, suspension components will wear out due to a number of factors. Because of the climate extremes we experience in Rochester, MN and how the road surface changes due to the extremes, creating potholes and cracked roads, suspension repairs may be needed sooner than in areas where roadways are smooth. Furthermore, the sand and salt on the roadways in the wintry months, plus the rust that may result on the underside of your vehicle, can affect your suspension components in negative ways. Taking care of any suspension repairs before they become major and/or unsafe is important. Depending on the severity of a suspension problem, you may experience any number of conditions - from minor to major - such as an uncomfortable bouncy ride from prematurely or abnormally worn tires, certainly an unsafe condition for you and other motorists. If your tires wear abnormally due to suspension issues, traction might be affected, making your vehicle unsafe. You'll have to replace tires more often, which costs more. Clearly, an experienced suspension repair shop is essential. • Battery Replacement

Your vehicle's battery is Important Rochester and the surrounding Minnesota region experience one of the harshest climates on the continent. With blistering heat in the summertime and frigid freezing temperatures in the winter, it's critical for your battery to always operate reliably. Your car's battery is a power reserve primarily for starting your car. It's typically rated in cold cranking amps, to ensure you have enough power to start your car when the mercury drops well below the freezing point. Your battery also provides backup support to run your vehicle's accessories when the draw is too much for the alternator to handle. Timely battery replacement will serve you well The average lifetime for a car battery is three to five years, after which your car battery begins to weaken. If your battery runs very low on power or is run down completely and needs a boost, it takes a toll on your battery's capacity to recharge. The summer heat affects your battery as much as the chilly winter weather, making Rochester's climate stressful on all car batteries. If your battery requires a boost from time to time, it's an indicator of a weak battery that should be replaced. If your lights are flickering or dim, or if your accessories quickly kill your battery when you use them without your engine running, it's a sign you should get a battery replacement. Timely battery replacement will ensure your car will start every time- in both the cold and the heat. With your lights and electrical systems operating correctly, you will avoid inconvenient breakdowns no matter what the weather is like. How we take care of your battery At Babcock Auto Care, we offer reliable battery testing and battery replacement by our dedicated ASE-Certified Master Technicians. We use industry-leading methods to test your battery and charging system to make sure the right repair is performed, whether that's a wiring repair, an alternator replacement, or a battery replacement. • Alternator Repair

Your vehicle's alternator is Important The alternator is a critical component of your vehicle's operation, as many systems rely on it. The alternator turns energy from the engine's rotating crank shaft into electricity that other parts of your vehicle use. It makes sure the engine and the rest of your vehicle have the power needed to function properly - from air conditioning to radio to headlights. The alternator also keeps the battery fully charged to have the power necessary to start your car. In hybrid vehicles, the alternator helps to ensure the vehicle has enough electricity, so it can operate when the engine is not running. Because the alternator is an integral part of your vehicle's electrical systems, many automotive problems can affect its function. This can sometimes make diagnosis of alternator repair needs, as well as other mechanical issues, more difficult. Timely alternator repair serves you well The time for alternator repair, if not complete alternator replacement, is when it is failing. Possible signs of impending failure include: A warning light illuminated on your dash with 'GEN' or 'ALT' Vehicle stalling or having difficulty starting Dead battery - which cannot be recharged by the alternator Dim or flickering headlights Other electrical failures There is never a convenient time for alternator repair, let alone alternator failure. Your vehicle cannot function without a functioning alternator. If you are noticing any signs of failure, it's crucial to obtain a definitive diagnosis of the problem. How we take care of your car At Babcock Auto Care, our ASE-Certified technicians will use up-to-date equipment to diagnose, repair and replace your alternator when needed. When it comes to alternator repairs, we use only quality parts and industry-standard repair methods. • Auto Air Conditioning Repair

Your vehicle's air conditioning is Important While the air conditioning system in your vehicle keeps you comfortable, it does so much more than that. Your air conditioning is responsible for clearing frost and fog from your windows in cold and damp weather, by drawing out moisture from the cabin's air. In this way, your air conditioning ensures you can safely see through your windows while driving in inclement weather, in addition to keeping you cool when the mercury rises. Timely auto air conditioning repairs will serve you well The air conditioning system on your vehicle has different facets which must work together in order to operate efficiently: The A/C compressor must pressurize the system. The seals, gaskets and lines have to seal in the refrigerant. The condenser and evaporator need to be clear and free-flowing. The sensors, controls and wiring need to operate properly. If any one of these components, or any other A/C system parts, aren't working as they should, your air conditioning won't operate most efficiently. In extreme cases, it may not function at all. Timely auto air conditioning repairs can eliminate more costly and in-depth repairs. They help prevent additional A/C component failures, such as a seized compressor due to lack of lubrication from a leak. How we take care of your air conditioning system At Babcock Auto Care, our professional ASE-Certified technicians address every A/C repair we see. Diesel repairs are often more expensive than gas engine repairs, requiring in-depth knowledge to be long-lasting. If just one part isn't working as it should, your engine will be inefficient, run rough, or may not run at all. • Radiator Repair

Your vehicle's radiator is Important Your radiator serves the vital role of cooling your engine. While the engine is running, extreme heat is created by the friction of moving parts inside the engine, combined with the combustion process. Engine coolant circulates through a series of channels in your engine, absorbing excessive heat and carrying it away to the radiator. The hot coolant runs through thin tubes in the radiator core, where air passes through and dissipates much of the heat. Many radiators also serve as a cooler for the transmission fluid. In much the same way as the engine coolant, transmission fluid circulates through part of the radiator to cool the fluid, preventing heat from damaging the transmission. Timely radiator repairs will serve you well Heat is your engine's enemy and must be carefully controlled. The ideal engine temperature is controlled with a thermostat that regulates the coolant flow to the radiator for optimal running temperature to be maintained. If the radiator can't perform its function of removing heat from the coolant, your engine temperature will skyrocket and your engine can overheat. This can mean expensive repairs, including head gasket replacement, internal bearing failure, or even a complete engine rebuild or replacement. If your engine temperature begins to climb beyond the normal zone, or if you get an 'engine hot' warning message, there's likely a problem in your cooling system that needs attention. It could be: A coolant hose leak The water pump not working A malfunctioning or stuck thermostat Time for a radiator repair If your vehicle needs radiator repair, it's best to have this completed right away. If left unattended, a leaking or plugged radiator can contribute to major problems that will quickly get worse with time. The longer a radiator repair is ignored, the greater the chances for bigger problems down the road. • Steering Repair

Your steering is Important As important as acceleration and braking are to your driving experience, they mean nothing without the ability to control your direction. Your steering system enables you to point your vehicle in the direction you want to go, while maintaining fluid control of your vehicle. There are different kinds of steering systems depending on your type of vehicle. Many trucks, full-size SUVs and heavy-duty vehicles use a recirculating ball steering system - essentially a worm shaft that moves the sector shaft - to control your steering direction. Most passenger cars and light-duty trucks and SUVs use a rack and pinion design, where the steering shaft moves the steering gear side to side inside a tube connected to the wheels. In both systems, pressurized power steering fluid assists in making the steering motion as easy as possible. Another increasingly popular steering system is electric power steering. Primarily used with rack and pinion systems, it provides steering assist with an electric motor, instead of a hydraulic power steering fluid system. Any type of steering system is crucial to your overall driving ability. If just one part is worn, leaking or loose, your vehicle control can be compromised, and you'll need steering repairs. Timely steering repair serves you well Because the steering system is closely tied to your vehicle's safe operation, every problem you experience should be addressed immediately. If you ignore a symptom such as a loose steering feel, binding when you're turning, clunking or rattling, or lack of power steering assist, you may be putting yourself at risk of an accident. If you experience any of these symptoms, or if you are concerned about your steering ability in any way, obtain steering repair work without delay. If left for too long, a loose tie rod can separate, or leaking power steering fluid could make you lose control of your steering. Any of this can be easily avoided in the right time. How we take care of your steering At Babcock Auto Care, your steering repairs are performed by knowledgeable ASE-Certified Master Technicians with years of experience. We know how to perform steering repairs and service on all types of steering systems, whether your Chevrolet Cobalt has electric power steering assist issues, your Dodge Caravan is leaking power steering fluid from its hoses, or your Ford F-150 shows excessive play in the steering wheel. Our aim is to ensure your driving safety in all conditions. We always use high-quality parts and fluids for your steering repair, while employing industry-standard repair methods. We back all our steering repairs with the best warranty in the business.

  • Timing Belt Replacement

Your vehicle's timing belt is Important Your engine's cylinder head contains intricate moving parts such as lifters and valves, moved in sequence by the camshaft. Your engine's lower end contains pistons, attached to the crankshaft that also move in perfect sequence. The top and bottom ends of your engine have to work in perfect harmony for your engine to run efficiently and powerfully. Keeping them precisely timed together is the timing belt. Your engine's timing belt is a toothed rubber belt that is reinforced with fabric strands or kevlar, making it strong and durable. It makes sure your engine's moving parts work together to generate the power you need to operate your vehicle. Timing belt replacement will serve you well The timing belt is subject to wear and tear, from operating over tens of thousands of miles, and simply from age. The rubber deteriorates over time and begins to crack, and the teeth on the belt may even begin to separate. Your timing belt may stretch over years of use as well. Your timing belt replacement interval should be closely followed. Timing belt replacement is typically suggested every 60,000 miles, although some manufacturers may allow extended intervals. If you choose to ignore or delay your timing belt replacement, the timing belt can stretch, causing poor running conditions. Worse yet it can break, often resulting in extensive engine damage that can cost thousands of dollars to fix. Be sure to have your timing belt replacement performed at or before its recommended interval. This will ensure long-lasting, efficient engine operation and prevent costly damage to your engine. How we take care of your timing belt At Babcock Auto Care, our ASE-Certified Master Technicians use modern equipment and up-to-date methods to thoroughly diagnose your timing belt replacement needs. The health of each component, such as the timing belt, idler and tensioner pulleys, crankshaft and camshaft sprockets, and water pump, will be inspected. We will advise you of any concern we find, the severity of it, and what will need to be replaced to keep your vehicle in top condition and safe on the roads. Because economy timing belts can fail prematurely, we only use high-quality parts for your timing belt replacement. All timing belt replacements at Babcock Auto Care are backed by the best warranty in the business.

  • Wheel Alignment

Your vehicle's wheel alignment is Important Your steering wheel rests straight up and your car drives ahead without pulling to the left or right. You can easily control your vehicle's direction with a simple touch of the steering wheel. When driving your car happens this smoothly, it means your wheel alignment is correct. Your vehicle's wheel alignment uses a set of angles and measurements from the manufacturer, known as toe, camber and caster. All of these make your vehicle easy to control. When your wheel alignment is accurate, your tires will last as long as possible, and your suspension components will endure the least amount of stress. Timely wheel alignment will serve you well Your wheel alignment is an adjustment that can be affected by a handful of circumstances. If you can't avoid a big pothole, the impact can bend a part or force an alignment angle to move. If you hit a curb, the same thing can happen. If you have a loose or worn suspension or steering part - such as a tie rod end or broken coil spring - your wheel alignment will become inaccurate. When your wheel alignment is incorrect, this puts strain on your steering and suspension, exacerbating the problem and often causing premature wear on those parts. Incorrect toe and camber cause excessive wear on your tires, cutting tens of thousands of miles of life from your tread in no time. Improper caster can make your vehicle hard to steer. In all situations, improper wheel alignment can make your car difficult and even dangerous to control. At the first sign of wheel alignment issues- such as a steering pull either left or right, or abnormal tire wear - your wheel alignment should be checked. A routine wheel alignment can be an annual part of your regular maintenance to keep your car operating as smoothly as possible. How we take care of your wheel alignment At Babcock Auto Care, your wheel alignment is addressed by our ASE-Certified Master Technicians.
